Getting around in St.Lucia

Taxi from the airports to our guesthouse

There are taxis available at the airport. There are no meters, negotiate the rare before you go. As a guideline here are some average Taxi rates for up to 3 people with normal luggage to get to the guesthouse.

SLU George FL Charles Airport about US$30. Additional passengers about US$5 extra. 15-20 minutes ride.

UVF Hewanorra Airport about US$120. About 90 minutes ride.

If you arrive at the southern UVF airport and you want to save transportation cost, consider a shared ride at the airport or book a rental car.

Rental cars

Closest rental car station to the guesthouse is at the Marina yacht harbour. You can walk there or take a short minibus ride.

You can rent a car at the airport. Sixt offers a one way drop off from UVF Hewanorra airport to the Marina yacht harbour station close to our guesthouse.

We have parking for your rental.

Minibus

There is a short 5-10 minute walk downhill to a bus stop. The minibus services are operating frequently to the Marina yacht harbour, Rodney Bay and the capital Castries. From Castries busses are connecting to the entire island. It is very cheap to connect to the south with those busses, but you will need plenty of time. Cost for a short ride start at about 1 US$.

Tours

Some of the tours pick you up from the house, the main road or at the close by village Gros Islet.

Tipping in St.Lucia

How much should I tip?  Well, that depends on the type of service. A small guide on expected tips

  • Cab driver 10%
  • Restaurants 10-15% (check your bill if “service charge” is already itemised)
  • Bars 10% (also check bill for “service charge”)

Charging your electronics

UK outlet

The voltage here is 240 volts, using the bulky United Kingdom “Type G” outlet plugs.

Maximum length of stay

Having even the best time here for visitors is unfortunately limited. However, a typical tourist visa allows you to spent up to 3 months here. Since mid 2021 St. Lucia allows you to stay even up to a year. Check the “Live it” program to apply online for it. Once you are on island, you can always purchase extensions.
